Hospitality Indochina Conference

Dear Hospitality Indochina Participants,

On behalf of the organizer Escom Events, I would like to express my gratitude for your participation in “Hospitality Indochina Conference” which was held on June 16 – 17 @ GEM Center, Ho Chi Minh City.

During the two days conference many international and local experts shared numerous presentations and their visions with the delegates from market outlook to investment opportunities, from project planning to contract management, from green design to building efficiency & from operational excellency to revenue generation.

Day one programs was chaired by Mr.  Kai Marcus Schröter, CEO of HTM Management Consultancy followed by Mr. Tran Thanh Vu who is the founder of SAOKHUE gave an presentation focusing on Phu Quoc Market Development; the first panel session was moderated by Ms. Nathalia Wilson, Sr. Director Hotels from Savills, joined with Mr Jonathan Campbell, Mr. Nguyen The Nhien, Mr. Andrew Yang and Rudolf Hever who gave several insights into the challenges & opportunities of investment in Indochina in 5 years; Mr. Kevin Beauvais, who is the CEO of Thailand Hotel Management Company gave us an unique hospitality perspective with viewpoints and anecdotes encompassing ownership, management and employment, including how to adapt and implement international standards on a regional level while embracing  local customs and nuances; the last Panel Session of Day one was moderated by Mr. Marc Towsend, the Managing director of CBRE together with Senior Executives from MIK Group, Moevenpick, Alternaty, Melia. They had heated discussion on the value chains analysis of proper model of management contract; The last two sessions were about Vietnam Hospitality Market at a  Glance & a Case Study in Hoi An presented by Mr. Luong Thanh Nam, Deputy General Secretary from Vietnam Tourism Property Association and Mr. Nguyen Son Thuy, General Manager from Hoi An Pearl JSC Company respectively. After all the conference programs, there were a dinner reception and cocktail reception hosted by Escom Events and two Lucky Draw sponsored by InVision Hospitality and Melia Hotels International respectively.

Day two morning was opened by Rudolf Hever, Executive Director  from Alternaty (Vietnam); then  Ms. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Deputy Director General - Hotel Department  from Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT)) gave the Welcoming Remarks on the subject of “Vietnam Focus: Vietnam Hospitality Industry : Trend, Policy and Strategies “; Ms. Fenady Uriarte from STR Presented the hotel performance and outlook in  regional  market; Centara’s interesting presentation titled “ How to Build A Great Vacation Hotel” was highly applauded as this  is the  valuable experience for Vietnam Hospitality practitioners;   Mr. Frederick Garnier together with other speakers from Blink Design. Accor, HBA , Savills and Alternaty  gave the delegates a close look into how to work with the hierachy of stakeholders; prior to lunchtime, Mr. Chrism Tham, Regional Manager from Grundfos elaborated on how pumps can lower your operating cost so your hotel can stay competitive in a challenging industry followed by the presentation of Ms. Vijesh Yoganathan from Revinate, who emphasized key industry trends and the modern gest expectations and then to elaborate on how to use data to drive actionable insights  & how to increase profit while differentiate brand.

Day two afternoon programs was compact and diversified. It started with an thought-provoking COO Panel moderated by Mr. Symon Bridle, Group COO of Rosewood Hotel Group. Other Panelists included Mr. Kevin Walllace, MD from Dream Hotel Group, Kevin, J. Beauvaise, CEO of InVision Hospitality and Mr. Kai Marcus Schröter & Ms. Magdalena Martorell; After that, Trung Truc Huynh, Cambodia  Branch General Manager  from  Hanvico showcased how mattress could help to upsale guests followed by an Architects panel formed by regional design firms; the last Panel Discussion was about the “ Complex Development”. The panelists together with the moderator Mr. Gonzalo Maceda analyzed the definition of a Integrated  Resort & what is the market hidden in Vietnam etc.; The closing presentation was brought by Ms. Do Ngoc Diep, who is the green building specialist and she gave the delegates an exclusive  look into  IFC’s effort in promoting green hotel in Vietnam; the Day Two lucky was sponsored by Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and New World Saigon Hotel respectively; and the whole programs ended with a group picture by all the delegates who was staying till the last.
